On track

Our test panel of larvae has explored two different substrates, a piece of coral skeleton and one piece of metallurgic slag. The slag is a residual product from industrial metal production with a complex surface textures, with holes in different sizes. It’s a cheap material with several advantages. The larvae were quite interested in the slag, explored the holes and crevices, and some of them attached temporarily.

Färgade streck mot mörk bakgrund illustrerar larvernas rörelser
A. The movements of the larvae around the substrates was tracked. They move slower over the slag, exploring. It’s one second between the rings marking the larvae, the longer the distance between rings, the faster they have moved.

B. Three larvae have attached temporarily to the slag.
